If you can open an impressive number of oysters in one minute, you NEED to be a part of our Amateur Shucking Competition happening as part of the Dibba Bay Oyster Festival 2024! Winner gets a Tavola Gift Voucher worth AED1000 and many more exciting prizes for 2nd and 3rd prize winners!

Important to note:

  • This ticket will allow you free entry into Taste of Dubai. Upon purchase of this item you will get a confirmation email which must be presented at the venue gates on the day to allow you FREE ENTRY into TASTE OF DUBAI FESTIVAL. 
  • You must be 18+ of age to be eligible for the competition
  • Please arrive at the Dibba Bay Oyster Shuck off feature at Taste of Dubai by 2pm on Friday February 14th
  • On arrival please head to the Registration Desk to sign in with our representative and fill the waiver form. 
  • You will be called on the stage once the competition begins at 3pm
  • Please bring your own protective gear (such as gloves) we will provide you with the oysters, shucking knives, boards and plating elements (you can bring your own knife if you prefer!)

Competition rules

Objective: Shuck as many oysters as possible in one minute. You are only required to remove the top shell without the need to severe the bottom muscle. 

1. Oysters for the competition are selected by judges and placed in boxes, the boxes are assigned randomly. Each contestant will open as many oysters as they can in one minute. 

2. Contestants remove oysters from their containers and arrange them for shucking. The contestant has the right to appeal any oyster that is deemed of improper quality to the Judges. If necessary, the Judges may substitute the oyster. 

3. Each Contestant will receive a shucking kit, which includes two knives, a tea towel, a shucking board. Contestants must bring their own protective gear. 

4. At the signal of the MC, the timekeeper will start the stopwatch. 

5. Contestants must aim to open a maximum number of oysters in one minute. 

6. The timekeeper will stop the time once a minute is complete, and the MC will announce the same. All contestants must put down their knives and step away from the table immediately. 

7. Top and bottom shells must be fully separated. 

8. Oysters must be placed on table, if dropped on the floor it is not counted 

9. Judges will inspect the oysters before confirming the winner. 

10. Contestant who opens the maximum oysters in a minute, wins the competition.

By registering for this event, you agree to the below:

I should not enter and participate in this event unless I am medically able and properly trained. By accepting this entry, I assume full and complete responsibility for any injury or accident that may occur during my travel to or from the event, during the event, or while I am on the premises of the event. In addition, I am aware of all risks associated with this activity and assume them. With respect to myself and my heirs and executors, I herewith waive, release and forever discharge the organizers, sponsors, promoters, their agents, representatives, successors, and assigns, and all other persons involved in this event, for any claims, actions, or damages I might otherwise have against them arising out of or in some way connected with my participation in this event. I understand that this waiver includes all claims, whether caused by negligence, the action or inaction of any of the above parties, or otherwise.
